Thomas Doughty

Thomas Doughty (1793–1856) is considered one of the first American painters to work exclusively as a landscape artist. Self-taught, he worked in Philadelphia, but also lived and worked in Boston and New York. Doughty is best known for his contemplative and atmospheric views of the wilderness of Pennsylvania, New York, and the Hudson River Valley.
